Privacy Policy
Your prayers are private. answrd does not read, analyse, sell, or share your prayer content. Ever.
Who we are
answrd is a Christian prayer app. We are based in Ireland and operate under Irish and EU data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For privacy and legal enquiries, contact us at legal@answrd.app.
What data we collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the service. You do not need to provide your name, email address, or any personal information to use answrd.
Account identifier
When you first open answrd, we generate an anonymous identifier for your account. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any personal detail unless you later choose to link an account.
Prayer and app content
We store the content you create in answrd — prayers, declarations, and testimony notes — so it is available to you across sessions. This content is linked to your anonymous account. We do not access or read it.
Usage data
We collect anonymised usage information to understand how the app is used and to improve it. This data does not include the content of your prayers.
Reminder preferences
If you set prayer reminders, we store the times you selected to deliver notifications at the right time.
Donation data
If you choose to give to answrd, payment processing is handled by a third-party payment provider. We store a record of the donation amount and date linked to your anonymous account. We never store card details or payment credentials.
What we do not collect
- Your name, email address, or phone number (unless you choose to provide them)
- Your location
- Your contacts or address book
- Your camera or photos
- Device identifiers for advertising
- Behavioural data for advertising or profiling
- The content of your prayers for any analytical purpose
Voice input
If you use the voice input feature, speech is processed on your device. Audio is not transmitted to our servers. The resulting text is treated the same as any other content you type in the app. You can decline microphone access and use the app fully without it.
How we use your data
We use your data solely to provide answrd to you. The legal basis for processing is the performance of the service you have requested (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), and in some cases our legitimate interests in improving the app (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Specifically, we use your data to:
- Deliver and maintain the app and its features
- Deliver your prayer reminders at the times you set
- Process voluntary donations securely
- Understand anonymised usage patterns to improve the app
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes.
Third-party processors
We work with a small number of trusted third-party services to operate answrd. Each acts as a data processor under our instruction and is subject to appropriate data processing agreements. We do not share your prayer content with any third party.
- Database and authentication provider — stores your app data securely in the EU
- Payment processor — handles donation transactions. Governed by their own privacy policy. We recommend reviewing it before donating.
- Analytics provider — receives anonymised usage data only. No prayer content is ever shared.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored securely within the European Union. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. All data in transit is encrypted.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as you use the app. If you wish to have your data deleted, contact us at legal@answrd.app and we will action your request within 30 days. Anonymous accounts with no activity for an extended period are deleted periodically.
Your rights under GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Erasure — request deletion of your data
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Portability — request your data in a portable format
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Restriction — request restriction of processing in certain circumstances
To exercise any of these rights, email legal@answrd.app. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (Ireland) at dataprotection.ie.
Children
answrd is rated 4+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact legal@answrd.app and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the app. The current version is always available at answrd.app/privacy.
